POLITE CONVERSATIONS | MIRANDA BARNES

Oh man - how long has it been since the last Polite Conversation? My bad my loyal readers who enjoyed those posts!  I am back and refreshed (let's see how long it lasts, hehe) and I come back with a brand new conversation with Miranda Barnes, who loves to photo with film just as much as I do!

I met with her 2 weeks ago and I just loved how passionate she is about photography.  She is currently a student pursuing forensics photography or photo journalism.  She's super sweet and enjoyed my time with her and can't wait to kick it with her again!

What caught your interest with film photography?
What caught my interest with film photography is honestly a hard question. I don't remember how it actually came about, but I think it had something to do with the feeling I got when walking around with a disposable camera my junior and senior year of high school. I guess I liked the feeling of documenting moments in my life like that.

What was the last camera you bought? Do you have a favorite camera you lug around?
Last camera I bought was a Olympus mju II zoom a few weeks ago. I still have some film left in it so I don't know how I feel about the photos yet but it's so lightweight and tiny that it fits my lifestyle perfectly already. And honestly not yet haha, all my other cameras are hella heavy so I'm still looking for that camera that suits me. I try to carry a camera everywhere I go, so I am hoping that maybe this will be the one.

When we met, you spoke of working with Alysha Nett and Kitty Pryde. How were those experiences?
They were really cool and I'm fortunate to have had them happen. I shot both of them within 2 weeks of each other last April and it really taught me the importance of remaining cool and focusing on the goal, which is to get good photos.

You're a student and you work. What do you do for some down time?
When I do have down time, I do like to try out different stuff, which I guess is very vague. But for an example, I've made it a little goal of mine to try and see an exhibit or gallery every month this year. Stuff like that. Falling asleep on beaches is super therapeutic to me and I try to do that several times a year. Trying new food with my grrrrlfriends and/or my dude never gets old either.

What song describes your life lately?
Currently I don't have a song really to describe my stressed crazed life right now, but I do have Pressure by The 1975 stuck in my head and its been weeks, they are so good.
