Polite Conversations | Renee Ruin

The first 'polite conversation' of 2012! I know it lacked in 2011 but this year I am taking it up a notch. I don't know how but I know I will.

Welcome Renee Ruin. And get to know a little bit about her as well as her site.  Thanks so much girl!!  Keep shining!

Renee Ruin's Everything, how do you ruin everything? I'd love to hear all about the coming about.
The whole 'ruin' thing has been with me my whole life. It all started when I was really young. My family always had this thing about our family having really bad luck or having some kind of curse. This luck seemed to stick around much of my adult life. It became an in-joke and kind of a catalyst for how I looked at life. I have an obsession with damage and ruins and the idea that some of the most beautiful things and moments in life are the most painful or damaged. Do I ruin everything? I think I used to be obsessed with taking myself to the brink of ruin and back again just to see how much I could take and just how much adversity life could throw at me.

It's really about the aftermath of damage or ruin...about rising from the ashes of ruin and saying 'Hey fuck you! give me your best shot I'm just gonna get back up again and again'. So when the idea of starting the site came about it seemed only logical that it would be as simple as reneeruin.com because everything I blog about and I love and share is a part of who I am, it's my personality and an entity. If that make sense? And, seriously ruined is just a silly little word play. I wanted to somehow extend my life and my personailty and world into something I could share with other people.

Where are you from?
I'm originally from a small country town in the state of Victoria in Australia. I currently live in Melbourne, Australia and have done so since I was 18 and I am now 31.

And what do you like to indulge in?
Too many things. I have a tendency to over-indulge and over-do everything. Music, movies, fashion, art, cooking, eating, partying and laughing. I have a serious internet addiction and I'm the first to admit it. I use facebook, twitter, tumblr, instagram etc etc. I have a very bi-polar personality and it's fair to say my indulgences reflect this. Sometimes I want nothing more than to chill at home with my dog Bowie, watch movies and eat Mexican food and other times I'm the party monster from hell.

What kind of content do you enjoy posting on the site?
A bit of everything. Personal writing, fashion, art, photography etc. All the things I like to immerse myself in daily. reneeruin.com gives me somewhere to store it all so my head does implode and in the process it shares all these things with other people who haven't seen/read/heard of certain things before. Two of the main series the site is most know for is the Who's that Girl? Features and the Featured Tattoo Artist series. Who's that Girl? is by far the most popular. It was really just about me wanting to capture really amazing talented women that I was seeing all over the internet who were just being shown as hot chicks. I wanted to talk beautiful strong women and delve beneath the surface and show people that behind the boobs there's some really rad stuff going on.

How would you describe yourself?
How I describe myself and how others would describe me would probably be very different. I am a very independent and strong personality. I talk a lot, A LOT. I am a really relaxed, funny person. A lot of times people perceive me as serious and even snobby which so isn't the case. I am just socially retarded at the best of times. I'm well educated but I am also one of the dorkiest people alive. I've had a very tough life and that really shaped me into the strong, nurturing person I am now.

If you had one piece of advice to give to the readers, what would it be?
Don't let your future be defined by your past and don't be content to play the victim in life. Live life for yourself and embrace who you are - the good, the bad & the ugly.
