Chainsaws & Jelly | October Muse

"October is nature's funeral month. Nature glories in death more than in life. The month of departure is more beautiful than the month of coming - October than May. Every green thin loves to die in bright colors." -Henry Ward Beecher

Happy October, beautiful people.  A favorite to most for Halloween and pumpkin spice lattes.  To me, it is a  "rebirth."  The air is different, the smells, the emotions, and the beauty of nature.  Fall/winter there is something beautifully eerie that I wish I can explain to you.  I'm much more alive during these seasons.

The October muse is with my best friend since high school, Gina Marr, who knows and understands the love of October and all that it encompasses.

I loved this set not only because of what it stood for but to work with my girls! Erin Serrano, the photographer did an amazing job.  All the hard work we put into this, you don't even know! Jaye Mize was in spirit and contributed to the accessories!  This was shot during a humid day over at Ramapo Reservation.

Model: Gina Marr
Photography: Erin Serrano
Make-up: Sheena She
Wardrobe/styling/accessories: Jaye Mize, Gina Marr, and Sheena She

Gina Marr, what's in the name?
Gina Marr is a pseudonym. It's based off my real name and came about in a funny way. At one of my old jobs my name was automatically shortened on all my login and payroll info so it appeared as "Ginamar R" it just somehow overtime turned into a name people called me. GM or Ginamar. I ended up keeping it because so many people knew me by that name. I wish it was a cooler story hahaha

What kind of things do you fancy?
Books, art, fashion, alchemy and the occult … unicorns! Bjork! music. I love creative people and good souls. I fancy nature and getting closer to it.

Dia Los Muertos, what's the fascination?
I have always admired the beauty of Mexican culture and the spirit of that country. Dio de los muertos is something that really clicks with me. The honoring of the dead, our loved ones that have passed, it brings great peace and perspective to your own life. "Memento mori" means "Remember your mortality" and that's very important to me. Not being afraid of the idea of death and making the most of life. Visually it's something I'm really obsessed with, a constant inspiration.

Being a muse on October, what is it about the month of October excites you?
I love the saying "from dark silence comes whisperings of new beginnings". And October feels very much that way to me. A time when you are connected to the earth and the energy all of the people who have passed through your life. October 30th to Nov 1st is time to recharge yourself. Halloween/Samhain is my new year. My favorite day of the year by far.

What did you enjoy most about the whole photoshoot?
Working with my best friends, collaborating from beginning to end on something we were all passionate about. When you see the end result of something that was just an idea in your head and it really strikes a chord with you, its feel very rewarding. On top of that to do it with people you love and respect, there's nothing better.
